Black Men Hairstyles

Black men hairstyles vary in length, texture, and cut. It seems today that most African-American men seem to prefer shorter cuts, but not always. Choices of cuts are described below according to length of hair.

Shaved Looks

Certain black men hairstyles are meant especially for shorter hair. Take for example Jamie Foxx and his close shave. One way this look has been described is as one that helps “make your hair disappear without going bald.” It also has been called the “black man’s buzz cut.”

This cut features a boundary line that runs straight across the forehead. The sides are shaped and refined in such a way that speaks sophistication during the day and fun during the night.

The total shave is another option, which of course is one step beyond the buzz cut/close shave look as described above. This total shave basically is essentially just a basic “bald look” which is best depicted in some of Tyrese Gibson’s latest photos.

These very short black men hairstyles often make older men look younger. They can define you as a confident and refined man who is still sexy.

Short to Medium-Length Cuts

Some black men hairstyles are about letting the natural coarse texture of the hair work for a man instead of against him. This is the case with a man who bear the ‘well-coifed afro’ look that can be replicated by men with coarse, curly hair. Lenny Kravitz is one who displays this look very well.

The afro described above is about as equally attractive as the ‘short dreads’ displayed by Kele Okereke. This is a counterpart to the longer dreadlocks that are not really as in style as they used to be. These shorter dreads look like stubs of hair that are artistically and strategically extending from the scalp.

Another mini-afro look is displayed by actor Harold Perrineau. This cut appears to have a crimped look to it with very fine dreads sporadically extending outward and upward.

Longer Cuts

The longer dreads and corn rows are still worn by men today. However, it should be noted that these black men hairstyles were far more popular in the 1990s than they are today.

Still, the longer dreads or corn row look is worn yet today. It is a classic look that probably would never go out of style. Just take a look at Donte Stallworth and you will know why this longer-locks look still works today.
